Hastings "Riverside Company" were the BIG WINNERS at "Competition of Excellence" 2019

On January 26th, Hastings "Riverside Company" headed to Omaha, Nebraska for Westside's "Competition of Excellence." "Riverside Company" was third to last to perform in the daytime round. Going into the competition, the group has earned 1 Grand Champion at Ankeny Centennial's "Mid-Iowa Show Choir Championships" earning Best Vocals, Best Band, and Best Male Soloist. "Riverside Company" also competed at the Onalaska "Classic" on January 12th, earning 3rd Place, right behind, Westside's "ATSC," and Bemidji's "Vocalmotive."

Last year at Westside, "Riverside Company" earned 3rd Place alongside taking Best Closer. During daytime awards this year, "Riverside Company" took Best Opener, Best Ballad, and an Outstanding Soloist Award for Grace Reilly. The group was selected to perform last in finals at 9:45pm.

During Final awards, Hastings "Riverside Company" was announced Grand Champion along with a complete sweep over the competition. At the end of the night, "Riverside Company" took home caption awards for Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Band, Best Opener, Best Ballad, and Outstanding Soloist.

Only two caption awards slipped away from Hastings. Best Costumes was awarded to Millard West's "Uptown Girls," and Best Closer was awarded to Mitchell's "Friend de Coup." Full Finals awards are listed below.

Hastings "Riverside Company" will be still competing at Dubuque Wahlert, Totino-Grace, and traveling to Nashville to compete at Show Choir Nationals. They will also host "Swingin on the River" on February 23rd, 2019.

"Flight" Claims Grand Championship across town at Choral Classic

On Saturday, March 9th, 13 mixed show choirs and 3 womens show choirs traveled to Wheaton, IL for the renowned Choral Classic. This event has been a hot spot for show choirs for as long as people can remember. It never fails to amaze the spectators with the amount of talent that runs through the stage. The day kicked off with the Women's Division participants. After the three of them performed, the mixed division kicked off right away!! The talent kept growing throughout the day with groups traveling in from all across the country. Defending champions, "Titan Fever" closed out the daytime competition right before WWS "Espirit" presented their A-M-A-Z-I-N-G show. The daytime awards ceremony followed after WWS's exhibition performance. During daytime awards, each group was presented with a certificate of participation, then we went on to the actual awards. Johnston Show Choirs Shine Bright at HOA Kansas City!

On Saturday, March 9th, Johnston Show Choirs, as well as many others, traveled to Kansas City to compete in the annual Heart of America competition. The day kicked off with the Concert Choir portion of the event. After that, Oak Grove's "Centerstage" started off the Varsity Division at 9:30am. Johnston's "Innovation" was second out of 10 varsity choirs to perform. Lunch then proceeded the Varsity Division awards. Finalists were quickly announced before the women's division kicked off. Broken Arrow's "Tiger Catalyst" kicked off the women's division while Johnston's "Synergy" kicked off the Prep Division. After a host performance by Mt. Mercy's Show Choir, the Showcase performance was announced, earning and exhibition performance after the finalists performed.
