Mt. Zion "Swingsations" dances their way to GC at Naperville North


On Saturday, February 16th, Naperville North hosted their 4th Annual "Clash of the Sequins" show choir invitational. This invitational is centered around boxing. Along with their crazy light displays, they play their own song before each group takes the stage, how cool is that!!

6 - Women's Groups, 5 - Prep Groups, and 9 - Varsity Division groups traveled to Naperville, IL to go head-to-head with each other at the event. The day started bright and early at 7:00am with Mt. Zion's "Premiere." At about 9:15am, Mundelein's "SoundFX" took the stage, starting off the Unisex division. Right after lunch, there was 1 final Unisex Division Groups to compete, "Espirit." After they performed, the Large Mixed Division kicked off with Oswego's "The Oswego Commotion."

Preliminary Awards were announced at 6:30pm. The awards first started out with presenting each group with certificate of participation. After that, the Small Mixed Division Awards were announced. Troy-Buchanan's "Soundwave" was announced the Small Mixed Division Champion. The Unisex Division awards were next announced. Wheaton-Warrenville South's "Espirit" came out on top. 4 awards were given to the Large Mixed Division and those are listed below:

Small Mixed Division:
1st: Troy-Buchanan "Soundwave" (BV, BC)
2nd: Peoria Area "Soundwave"
3rd: Springfield "IN Session"

Unisex Division:
1st: Wheaton Warrenville South "Espirit" (BV, BC)
2nd: Mundelein "Lights"
3rd: Mt. Zion "Les Femmes"

Best Band: Mundelein "Sound"
Best Costumes: Mt. Zion "Swingsations"
Best Male Soloist: from Mundelein
Best Female Soloist: from IDK

Finalists were then announced. They announced in a random order, then the directors met backstage and figured out the finals performance order. The Finals performance order is listed below:
WWS "Espirit"
Lawerence Central "Central Sound"
Mundelein "Sound"
Troy-Buchanan "Express"
WWS "The Classics"
Mt. Zion "Swingsations"

Final Awards happened at 11:30pm after Naperville North's "Entourage" performed in exhibition. The Final Awards went like this:

5th RU: WWS "Espirit"
4th RU: Lawrence Central "Sound"
3rd RU: Mundelein "Sound"
2nd RU: Troy-Buchanan "Express"
1st RU: WWS "The Classics" (BV)
GC: Mt. Zion "Swingsations" (BC)



Mt. Zion has competed at two competitions already and has placed 4th at Franklin Community and 3rd at Troy-Buchanan. At each of these competitions, the group has earned Best Choreography (3 consecutive BC's). The group plans to still compete at Sullivan, next weekend,  Glenwood, Decatur, and travel to Massachusett's for Andover's "New England Show Choir Showdown."



Congratulations on your first Grand Champion of the season "Swingsations," keep it up.

"Flight" Claims Grand Championship across town at Choral Classic

On Saturday, March 9th, 13 mixed show choirs and 3 womens show choirs traveled to Wheaton, IL for the renowned Choral Classic. This event has been a hot spot for show choirs for as long as people can remember. It never fails to amaze the spectators with the amount of talent that runs through the stage. The day kicked off with the Women's Division participants. After the three of them performed, the mixed division kicked off right away!! The talent kept growing throughout the day with groups traveling in from all across the country. Defending champions, "Titan Fever" closed out the daytime competition right before WWS "Espirit" presented their A-M-A-Z-I-N-G show. The daytime awards ceremony followed after WWS's exhibition performance. During daytime awards, each group was presented with a certificate of participation, then we went on to the actual awards. Hastings "Riverside Company" were the BIG WINNERS at "Competition of Excellence" 2019

" Riverside Company " was third to last to perform in the daytime round. Going into the competition, the group has earned 1 Grand Champion at Ankeny Centennial's "Mid-Iowa Show Choir Championships" earning Best Vocals, Best Band, and Best Male Soloist. " Riverside Company " also competed at the Onalaska "Classic" on January 12th, earning 3rd Place, right behind, Westside's "ATSC," and Bemidji's "Vocalmotive." Last year at Westside, " Riverside Company " earned 3rd Place alongside taking Best Closer. During daytime awards this year, " Riverside Company " took Best Opener, Best Ballad, and an Outstanding Soloist Award for Grace Reilly. The group was selected to perform last in finals at 9:45pm.
