Mt. Zion "Swingsations" earn ANOTHER GC at Sullivan!


On Saturday, February 23rd, 10 Mixed Groups, 5 Women's Groups, & 2 Men's Groups traveled to Sullivan, IL to compete in the Sullivan Show Choir Invitational.

The day kicked off with Danville's "The Executives" at 8:00am. Mt. Zion's "Les Femmes" finished out the Unisex Division at 11:10am. Right after lunch, Troy-Buchanan's "Soundwave" started the Prep Division Competition, with Springfield's "IN Session" completing the Prep Division at 2:25pm. Troy-Buchanan's "Express" started out the Mixed Division Competition with El Paso-Gridley's "Modulations" closing the division. Sullivan "Singers" completed the daytime with an exhibition at 5:40pm, just before awards.

The top three finishers in each division were awarded, as well as finals announcements. Daytime awards were as follows:

Single-Gender Division:
1st: Mt. Zion "You've Got Male"
2nd: Danville "Contemporaries"
3rd: Mt. Zion "Les Femmes"

Prep Division:
1st: Troy-Buchanan "Soundwave"
2nd: Mt. Zion "Premiere"
3rd: Springfield "IN Session"

Mixed Division:
1st: Mt. Zion "Swingsations"
2nd: Decatur "Elite Energy"
3rd: Troy-Buchanan "Express"
Best Male Soloist: Brandon Kondritz (Mt. Zion "Swingsations")

Finalists (in performance order):

Danville "Delegation"

Final Awards took place at 10:45pm. The final awards go as follows:
GC: Mt. Zion "Swingsations" (BC, Best Overall Effect)
1st RU: Decatur "Elite Energy" (BB, BV)
2nd RU: Troy-Buchanan "Soundwave"
3rd RU: Danville "Delegation"
4th RU: El Paso-Gridley "Modulations"
5th RU: Troy-Buchanan "Soundwave"


"Swingsations" Grand Champion at Sullivan was their 2nd Consecutive Grand Championship this season. The group has also gone undefeated with Best Choreography this year. I feel that this has been one of their stronger years. Their Prom themed show is very unique and funny. Also, the props are on point.

The groups has competed at Franklin Community where they earned 4th Place and Best Visuals; Troy-Buchanan earning 3rd Place with Best Choreography, Best Closer, and Best Costumes; Naperville North earning Grand Champion, Best Choreography, and Best Costumes; and now Sullivan, earning Best Choreography, Best Overall Effect, and Best Male Soloist!!

"Flight" Claims Grand Championship across town at Choral Classic

On Saturday, March 9th, 13 mixed show choirs and 3 womens show choirs traveled to Wheaton, IL for the renowned Choral Classic. This event has been a hot spot for show choirs for as long as people can remember. It never fails to amaze the spectators with the amount of talent that runs through the stage. The day kicked off with the Women's Division participants. After the three of them performed, the mixed division kicked off right away!! The talent kept growing throughout the day with groups traveling in from all across the country. Defending champions, "Titan Fever" closed out the daytime competition right before WWS "Espirit" presented their A-M-A-Z-I-N-G show. The daytime awards ceremony followed after WWS's exhibition performance. During daytime awards, each group was presented with a certificate of participation, then we went on to the actual awards. Johnston Show Choirs Shine Bright at HOA Kansas City!

On Saturday, March 9th, Johnston Show Choirs, as well as many others, traveled to Kansas City to compete in the annual Heart of America competition. The day kicked off with the Concert Choir portion of the event. After that, Oak Grove's "Centerstage" started off the Varsity Division at 9:30am. Johnston's "Innovation" was second out of 10 varsity choirs to perform. Lunch then proceeded the Varsity Division awards. Finalists were quickly announced before the women's division kicked off. Broken Arrow's "Tiger Catalyst" kicked off the women's division while Johnston's "Synergy" kicked off the Prep Division. After a host performance by Mt. Mercy's Show Choir, the Showcase performance was announced, earning and exhibition performance after the finalists performed.
